PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Two people, including a boy, died Sunday morning after a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 80 in southeast Wayne, reports Daily Voice.

The accident happened on the Exit 53 exit ramp from I-80 eastbound, before the Route 46/23 “spaghetti bowl” interchange. It was first reported just after 10:00 a.m.

While the cause of the wreck was not immediately clear, New Jersey State Police said a 46-year-old Lyndhurst man was driving a Honda Odyssey when it traveled off the left side of the offramp and struck a utility pole.

The adult male driver and an unidentified boy who was a passenger in the vehicle died from their injuries at the scene, confirmed NJSP.

Two other boys in the vehicle were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Authorities had the exit shut down for nearly four hours as local firefighters and Department of Transportation crews joined NJSP at the scene.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
