Child hit by vehicle in Kenilworth crosswalk Halloween night

UNION COUNTY, NJ — An 8-year-old child was hospitalized Tuesday night after being struck by a car while crossing a Kenilworth intersection, reports local media.

The incident unfolded at South Michigan Avenue and Newark Avenue, at around 7:10 p.m.

Kenilworth Police say the child and his mother were using a marked crosswalk to travel over the roadway when he was struck.

First responders rushed the victim to University Hospital in Newark for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with an investigation, but it’s unclear at this time whether any charges are expected to be filed.

Video footage taken in the area will be examined as the Kenilworth Police Department’s Traffic Bureau continue to investigate.
