Car hits Paramus school bus after running red light

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 27-year-old Dumont man was summoned Monday morning after a crash involving a school bus carrying children in Paramus, according to local media.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue. Paramus Police Department officers responded to the scene at about 8:44 a.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the man was driving a 2019 Mercedes GLC westbound on Ridgewood Avenue when he ran the red light at the intersection. Moments later, the Mercedes collided with a Paramus Board of Education school bus that was turning eastbound onto Ridgewood Avenue from Highland Avenue.

The school bus, which was driven by a 45-year-old Lodi woman, was transporting 23 students to Parkway School at the time of the crash.

Authorities said no injuries were reported in the event, but the driver of the Mercedes was issue multiple summonses, including Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, and Failure to Stop for Red Light.
