Burglar killed in getaway car crash in Newburgh

NEWBURGH, NJ – The identity of a man who was killed in a car accident after burglarizing a local business in Newburgh has been released.

According to Mid Hudson News, 23-year-old Eric Ocasio-Grannell was with two other men when they burglarized a business on Route 9W in the Town of Newburgh early on Tuesday morning. The men fled the scene in a Ford Econoline van, leading to a police chase into the City of Newburgh. The chase ended when the suspects crashed at the corner of Robinson Avenue and South Williams Street.

Grannell died as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash. The driver, 27-year-old Luis Colon was also injured. He is facing charges for fleeing a police officer and manslaughter.

The third man also suffered injuries in the crash.
