ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — An 8-year-old boy from Egg Harbor City died early Sunday after a parked vehicle he was sleeping in was struck by a car in Absecon, according to Daily Voice.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said the wreck occurred on White Horse Pike (U.S. Route 30) at around 3:25 a.m.
A preliminary investigation shows the boy, who had just returned from a fishing trip with his father, was asleep in a 1995 Honda that was parked on the shoulder of the road. At one point, the Honda was hit by a westbound 2019 Nissan Sentra that veered off the right side of the roadway.
First responders rushed the boy to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, Edward Johnston, 25, received multiple motor vehicle summonses following the event.
No further information has been disclosed at this time, as authorities are still working to determine the cause of the crash. The prosecutor said Johnston may face more charges pending the close of the investigation.
