Bloomfield officers fire at driver attempting to hit them

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – Officials fired gunshots at a suspect that attempted to run over officers during a motor vehicle stop in Essex County on Monday.

According to Nj.com, the police were alerted to a vehicle wanted for a felony offense in Bloomfield Avenue near Ampere Parkway at about 1:45 p.m. They approached the vehicle but the driver refused to exit the locked car. The driver then stepped on the gas, crashing into a police vehicle and civilian’s car, before advancing towards officers.

Police fired shots at the driver but the suspect drove away from the scene.

The suspect was later apprehended and held in custody at a Newark hospital. The nature of the suspect’s injuries is unclear.

The incident is under investigation.
