Alleged driver facing charges after fatal Bayonne hit-and-run

BAYONNE, NJ – Authorities have identified the victim and have charged a man in connection with Thursday night’s hit-and-run in Bayonne, according to the Essex Daily Voice.

The accident happened at the intersection of 25th Street and Avenue C at about 10:20 p.m. when the driver of a dark car, Bayonne man James Nichols, 50, allegedly hit the victim as he was attempting to cross the street.

The victim, 50-year-old John Hagans, of Jersey City, was knocked down into the street, and Nichols then allegedly drove away from the scene.

Soon after, Hagans was run over by an NJ Transit bus. He died at the scene

Nichols is facing charges of a fatal hit-and-run in connection with the accident.
