WARREN TWP, NJ – An elderly motorist struck and injured two Somerset County Public Works employees as they were working on a stretch of Mt. Horeb Road in Warren Township on Monday afternoon, NJ.com reports.
The incident occurred at about 1:10 p.m. on December 20 in the eastbound lanes of the road between Geiger Lane and Tiffany Way. An 80-year-old man driving a 2016 Chrysler slammed into a piece of construction equipment in the area, which sent his car rebounding into a nearby trailer.
A 46-year-old Raritan Borough man was inside the trailer at the time, while a 30-year-old South Bound Brook man became trapped between the trailer and the elderly motorist’s Chrysler.
The younger man was airlifted to nearby trauma center with critical injuries. He was in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
The other man was hospitalized via ambulance and released the same day.
The elderly motorist was also transported to a trauma center, and was still there as of the following afternoon. It is unclear whether he will face criminal charges.
