ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Two people were injured Friday evening when a vehicle collided with a building in Irvington Township, according to local media.
Irvington Police said officers responded to the scene at 676 18th Street at about 7:30 p.m.
Officials did not say what led up to the wreck, but preliminary details indicate a passenger car first hit the building, impacting two pedestrians. The vehicle proceeded to lose control and slam into a garage, causing it to immediately collapse.
Police and first responders with the Irvington Fire Department arrived to find a passenger car below a pile of debris, and two pedestrians down on the roadway. The severity of their conditions was not immediately disclosed.
PSEG crews were called to the scene to remove a utility pole that was also struck during the series of crashes.
An investigation by the Irvington Police Department remains underway.
