MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Two people lost their lives Tuesday afternoon in Sayreville due to a two-vehicle crash that left two others seriously injured, reports local media.

Authorities said the fatal accident happened in the area of Bordentown Avenue and Waterworks Road at around 4:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that a Nissan was traveling on Bordentown Avenue when, for reasons still unclear, it veered past the double yellow line. Moments later, the car collided head-on with a box truck.

Both the driver of the Nissan and the rear passenger on the driver’s side were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The front-seat passenger and the passenger seated behind them suffered severe injuries. Both patients were rushed to an area hospital where their condition remains undisclosed.

Authorities said occupants of the box truck reported only minor injuries.

An investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office remains ongoing.
