BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two people died late Sunday after a fiery two-vehicle collision on the New Jersey Turnpike near Teaneck, according to Daily Voice.

New Jersey State Police said the fatal wreck occurred on the northbound lanes (Interstate 95) near Exit 70B to Degraw Avenue, just before midnight.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the crash, but preliminary details indicate a man and a woman were traveling in a 1950s-era Plymouth when it was struck from behind by a Jeep Cherokee. Both vehicles burst into flames following the impact.

The man and the woman in the Plymouth were pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed NJSP.

Two people in the Jeep suffered minor injuries, though officials did not say whether or not the two were taken to a hospital.

Fire crews and other first responders from Teaneck and Leonia joined the NJSP at the scene.

A section of the turnpike was shut down for more than four hours as the NJSP conducted an investigation. No charges have been reported as of this writing.
