BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two people were sent to a hospital Tuesday night after a crash involving a hit-and-run driver on Route 17 near Hasbrouck Heights, according to Daily Voice.
The incident occurred on the southbound side of NJ-17 near Williams Avenue, just after 9:30 p.m.
Hasbrouck Heights Police said two people in a dark Honda sedan had initially gotten into a single-vehicle wreck in which the car collided with two guardrails.
The occupants told police that moments after the first crash, their car was struck by another vehicle whose driver continued southbound without stopping. First responders arrived to find the airbags of the Honda deployed.
Both the driver and their passenger were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for injuries considered non-life-threatening.
A section of the highway was closed as local firefighters worked to clear a resulting fuel spill and removed the wrecked Honda.
At this time, no description of the fleeing vehicle has been released.
