2 hurt due to suspected DWI crash on I-80 in Bergen County

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A DWI suspect and his passenger were hospitalized early Monday after a crash with a garbage truck on Interstate 80 in South Hackensack, reports Daily Voice.

The collision took place on the westbound lanes at mile marker 66.2, near the Huyler Street overpass. First responders arrived on the scene shortly after 4:30 a.m.

New Jersey State Police said a driver of a Land Rover appeared to have been intoxicated and going in excess of 100 miles per hour when the SUV struck a Mack MR6 truck.

The impact of the crash left the SUV totaled and sent the garbage truck into a guard rail and a chainlink fence before it traveled off the interstate.

The driver of the Land Rover and his female passenger were both rushed to the trauma unit at Hackensack University Medical Center. Officials did not disclose the extent of their injuries, but both were listed in stable condition.

No injuries to the dump truck driver were reported.

Three westbound lanes were blocked off crews cleared the roadway and NJSP investigated.
