BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — At least two people were injured Monday morning in a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 287 near Mahwah, reports Daily Voice.

Multiple ambulances, fire engines, and rescue teams responded to the scene on the northbound highway shortly after 11:00 a.m.

The circumstances behind the event remain unclear at this time, but firefighters performed a rescue extrication for one truck driver, whose legs were pinned in the wreckage of the cab. After about 90 minutes, the patient was removed and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

Officials said at least one other driver was taken to a local hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not disclosed.

At this time, a dog who had been traveling in one of the trucks has not been accounted for.

Sections of the interstate were shut down for hours during the emergency response and investigation. All southbound lanes were later reopened to traffic, but the northbound side remained blocked as crews worked to remove the remaining wreckage.
