BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two people were injured early Tuesday due to a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Route 46 in South Hackensack, reports Daily Voice.

South Hackensack Police responded to the scene at the intersection with Phillips Avenue shortly after 12:30 a.m.

Authorities said a West New York man was driving a 2010 Honda Accord when the sedan collided with a 2022 Volkswagen SUV. Officers arrived at the scene to find both vehicles significantly damaged.

First responders transported the driver of the VW, a 64-year-old Elmwood Park man, to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries considered non-life-threatening.

The West New York man was also taken to HUMC with a big laceration in the back of his head. Authorities said he was placed under police custody. He has since been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), reckless driving, “having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle,” and has also been issued eight motor vehicle summonses.
