FANWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ (UNION COUNTY) – A 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle was flown to the hospital after being hit by an SUV in an accident in Union County yesterday morning.
According to NJ.com, the accident happened at Helen Street and La Grande Avenue at about 10:10 a.m. when the teenage bicyclist was struck by a car.
He was pinned beneath the vehicle on his stomach and reportedly attempted to crawl free before being rescued by emergency crews.
The victim was airlifted to the hospital in New Brunswick with serious injuries. He is expected to survive the accident, according to an update given at about 6 p.m.
The driver was not reported as injured in the crash and is apparently cooperating with the investigation. They remained at the scene after the collision.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash at this time.
