ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — One person died Tuesday morning following a major two-vehicle crash in downtown Newark that left several others seriously injured, reports local media.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said the fatal accident occurred in the area of Broad Street and Pennington Street, near Lincoln Park, shortly before 5:00 a.m.
It remains unclear what led up to the violent crash, but first responders arrived on the scene to find occupants trapped inside their vehicles and suffering from significant injuries.
Shortly after the victims were extricated from the wreckage, one person was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An unspecified number of other patients were transported to University Hospital with a range of injuries.
No other information has been provided at this time, but authorities continue to investigate the cause of the wreck.
