PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — One person died early Thursday after a chain-reaction wreck on New Jersey Route 3 in Clifton, according to Daily Voice.

The fatal accident happened shortly after 4:30 a.m., on the westbound lanes that run over the Passaic River Bridge.

It was unclear what caused the multi-vehicle collision, but at least two SUVs and two sedans were involved.

First responders had to extricate one person from a vehicle. That patient was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center in “traumatic arrest,” and was later pronounced deceased.

At least one other person was said to have complained of chest pains, but authorities have not confirmed the number of occupants injured.

All westbound lanes on the bridge were shut down until about 12:00 p.m. during the crash clearance and initial investigation.
