1 dead after crash with semi on I-295 in Burlington Township

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — A 31-year-old man died early Sunday after a two-vehicle crash that seriously hurt a woman on Interstate 295 in Burlington Township.

The fatal wreck took place on the northbound lanes at milepost 46.6 approaching Elbow Lane. It was first reported at about 3:30 a.m.

According to New Jersey State Police, a Florence Township man was driving a Chevrolet Equinox northbound when the vehicle collided with the back of a Freightliner M2 semi-truck.

First responders rushed the male driver to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

His passenger, a 27-year-old woman from Hampton, Virginia, suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Cooper Trauma Center where her condition remains undisclosed.

Officials said no injuries to the driver of the M2, a 59-year-old Gloucester City man, were reported.

An investigation into the cause of the accident remains underway.
