BAYONNE, NJ – More details about a hit-and-run accident in Bayonne last week that left one person dead have come to light, according to a local news report.

John Hagans, 50, of Jersey City, was struck by a dark-colored car while attempting to cross the street on Avenue C on Thursday night. That car left the scene after striking Hagans at about 10:20 p.m. and left the victim lying in the roadway. A New Jersey Transit bus then ran over the pedestrian.

The bus driver stopped at the scene and contacted emergency workers about the accident.

On Saturday morning, 50-year-old John Nichols, the suspected driver of the dark-colored vehicle, turned himself in to the police. He is facing charges for leaving the crash scene.
