RIVERVALE, NJ – According to Daily Voice, a driver was found dead in his submerged SUV in the Hackensack River in an unexplained accident Thursday.

The driver, John Inserra, 48, was a Hillsdale Firefighter. He had been heading to the gym before he disappeared and was reported missing on Thursday.

After his phone pinged in the area of Rivervale Road and Piermont Avenue, local law enforcement began searching the area.

Inserra was found inside his Acura SUV in the river at about 4 p.m. on Thursday. The vehicle had run off the embankment and was partially underwater in the Hackensack River.

The vehicle left the roadway across from Edgewood County Club and dropped about 50 feet before it landed upside down. The accident left no skid marks because of the thick brush.

The reason for the accident and Inserra’s death has not been determined, but those close to the firefighter said that he suffered from severe heart trouble.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, soon after being extracted from his vehicle.
