MIDDLESEX, NJ – After varying reports, NJ.com confirmed that the pedestrian who was struck on Route 1 Monday was hit by more than one vehicle.
Joseph Cicero, 50, was struck first in the northbound lanes and then the southbound lanes at about 1:40 a.m. on Monday on Route 1 near Smith Street. A northbound vehicle, driven by a 29-year-old man who stopped and cooperated with authorities, struck the victim sending him across the median into the southbound lanes. There a dark-colored Hyundai Sante Fe struck him for the second time.
Hew as pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.
Police are looking for the Sante Fe and asking anyone with information to share what they know.
