READINGTON, NJ – A call about an erratic driver took an unexpected turn when the passenger hopped into the driver’s seat and took off, according to Daily Voice.

Police received a call at about 1:30 p.m. Monday about a Ford pickup that was driving erratically, which they found and pulled over on eastbound Route 78.

Officers discovered the driver was intoxicated and in possession of heroin.

As the officers were busy with the driver, the passenger got behind the wheel and drove away.

Christopher Treadwell, 30, crashed into another car in Washington Township near Pleasant Grove Road. He then fled the scene on foot and jumped in a private swimming pool.

The passenger of the car that Treadwell struck was seriously injured and airlifted to a local hospital.
