UNION COUNTY, NJ — A man died early Tuesday in a pedestrian crash early Tuesday in Elizabeth after he was seen sitting in a roadway, according to local media.
The fatal incident occurred on Newark Avenue (New Jersey Route 27), shortly after 3:57 a.m.
Authorities are still working to determine the circumstances of the event, but officers were responding to distress calls about the man seated in the travel lanes when they were alerted that he had been hit by a passing vehicle.
First responders rushed the victim to Trinitas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased despite life-saving measures. His identity remains undisclosed at this time.
An investigation remains open and ongoing.
