NJSP investigates major vehicle fire on I-78 WB near Union

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Firefighters responded to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames Tuesday night on Interstate 78 near Union Township, according to local media.

The incident was reported on the westbound lanes of I-78 at Exit 50B to Vauxhall Road, at about 9:40 p.m.

It remains unclear what caused the fire, but responding fire crews quickly worked to extinguish the flames. After the blaze was put out, firefighters carefully searched the vehicle but found no trapped occupants.

An investigation into the cause of the fire remains underway with New Jersey State Police. No suspicious activities around the event have been reported as of this time.
