Fleeing suspects arrested after rollover crash in Newark

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A police pursuit that began early Wednesday in Elizabeth ended shortly after a major rollover crash in Newark, reports local media.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Spruce Street and Quitman Street, in the city’s Springfield/Belmont area, some time after 5:45 a.m.

A preliminary investigation shows that Elizabeth Police officers began following a vehicle whose occupants included an unspecified number of suspects reportedly wanted for Elizabeth felonies. The vehicle, which failed to stop for the officer’s lights and sirens, continued into Newark streets was later involved in a rollover crash at the intersection.

The suspects then fled the scene on foot but were later apprehended by law pursuit.

No major injuries to the suspects or the involved officers were reported.

An investigation into the incident remains underway.
