MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — Authorities responded to the scene of a train crash involving an unoccupied vehicle Monday morning in Long Branch, reports Daily Voice.
The collision occurred at the Cedar Avenue railway crossing, east of Monmouth University, in the city’s West End area. It was first reported at around 6:00 a.m.
According to NJ Transit officials, North Jersey Coast Line train 3312, which had departed Bay Head at 5:17 a.m. and was set for a 7:24 a.m. arrival at Penn Station New York, hit a vacant vehicle at the crossing.
It was unclear why the vehicle was on the tracks and whether it was vacated right before the impact.
Authorities said that none of the train’s 50 passengers or crew members were reported hurt in the incident.
Train service was suspended in both directions following the crash but was restored by 9:00 a.m.
An investigation by the New Jersey Transit Police was underway.
