OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — One person died late Saturday following a single-vehicle wreck off Route 72 in Barnegat Township, according to local media.
Ocean County authorities said the fatal accident occurred near the intersection with West Bay Avenue at around 10:40 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate a vehicle had run off the roadway and into a nearby wooded area, where it struck multiple trees.
First responders worked to administered life-saving measures, but one person succumbed to their injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.
No one else was reported seriously injured.
An investigation into the the circumstances and cause of the crash remain ongoing.
