MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Ten people were hurt, two seriously, early Tuesday due to a transit van accident on Interstate 287 in the borough of Riverdale, reports local media.

The wreck occurred on the Exit 53 ramp from I-287 northbound to Hamburg Turnpike. It was first reported shortly before 3:00 a.m.

According to New Jersey State Police, New Square, NY resident Aron Dirnfield, 20, was driving a Ford Transit van northbound on the ramp. At one point, the van traveled off the roadway, struck a curb, and entered a grassy median before going airborne. The van proceeded across the entrance ramp and the guardrail, then hit several trees and went down an embankment.

Authorities said the male driver and his front-seat passenger, a 15-year-old from Monsey, NY, suffered significant injuries, while eight other passengers in the van sustained only minor injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the accident remains in progress.
