MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 34-year-old Iselin man has been charged after a crash Tuesday evening in Highland Park that claimed the lives of two people, according to local media.

Middlesex County officials said the accident occurred at the intersection of Route 27 and North 10th Street, at about 5:32 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate Abeer Viriani was driving a Mercedes that collided with a Subaru occupied by Peter Palmer, 75, and Carol Paul, 77, both of Easton, Maryland. The Mercedes also went on to hit a Hyundai Elantra.

Both occupants of the Subaru died from their injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

Viriani suffered serious injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital along with the driver of the Elantra, who sustained minor injuries.

On the same day, the causing driver was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Manslaughter in the first degree, and two counts of Vehicular Homicide in the second degree. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in Superior Court for a pre-trial detention hearing.
