OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A 56-year-old man died Friday afternoon after being ejected during a garbage truck crash off the Garden State Parkway in Toms River, reports Daily Voice.

The accident occurred on the southbound side of the parkway near milepost 82.8, north of Route 37. It was first reported by New Jersey State Police at about 1:20 p.m.

Officials have not said what caused the wreck, but the man, a Bayville resident, was driving a Peterbilt 320 waste truck when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and hit multiple trees.

The victim, who was ejected during the incident, died from his injuries at the scene.

Though the southbound lanes remained open during the response and initial investigation, motorists still faced long delays.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
