OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A 45-year-old Toms River man died Saturday night after a pair of pedestrian crashes on County Route 571 in Manchester Township, according to Daily Voice.
Local police said the fatal incident occurred on the northbound side of CR-571 near Washington Avenue. It was first reported at about 10:30 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate the man was crossing the road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a black 2018 Ford Explorer and then a black 2021 Toyota Highlander.
First responders arrived to find the man lying on the roadway, 56 feet past Washington Avenue. The victim, Paul Mount, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
No other injuries were reported in the event, and no charges have been filed as of this writing.
Multiple agencies, including the Ridgeview Volunteer Fire Department and area EMTs, assisted at the scene.
An investigation by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office was underway.
Authorities have determined “crossing the roadway in an area with no crosswalk during nighttime conditions” to be the primary cause of the incident.
