BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man died late Friday night after a pedestrian crash involving a hit-and-run driver on U.S. Highway 46 in Ridgefield Park, reports Daily Voice.

Authorities said the fatal incident first unfolded on the eastbound lanes (Winant Avenue) near Ridgefield Avenue, at around 11:10 p.m.

Few details have been made available, but an early investigation indicates the man was on the eastbound side when he was hit by one car, which dragged him onto the oncoming lane. The driver in the first vehicle fled the scene without stopping, and, moments later, the pedestrian was dragged and pinned under a Tesla.

Responding fire crews worked to raise the vehicle off the man, but the victim ultimately died from his injuries at the scene.

A section of the highway was shut down during the response. By 4:00 a.m., both eastbound and westbound lanes were reopened to traffic.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is assisting in an investigation led by the Ridgefield Park Police Department.
