Accident closes multiple lanes on southbound GSP in Cranford

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A vehicle crash early Friday blocked three right lanes on the Garden State Parkway in Cranford Township, according to 511NJ GSP.

The collision took place on the southbound parkway, north of Exit 137 to New Jersey Route 28. It was first reported by 511NJ at 2:42 a.m.

Officials have not disclosed the circumstances of the wreck, but the three lanes remained closed for several hours, suggesting a major accident.


By 8:12 a.m., more than five hours later, crews had cleared the scene to the right shoulder and all lanes were reopened to commuters.


It remains unclear at this time whether anyone was seriously hurt.
