Woman dies after hit-and-run crash near Garfield home

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 51-year-old woman died Tuesday, January 3, after being hit and dragged by a vehicle near her residence in Garfield, according to Daily Voice.

The fatal incident occurred in the area of Outwater Lane and Alaska Street, just before 9:00 p.m.

Authorities said the woman was crossing the street in front of the house when she was struck and dragged for about 50 feet by a driver in a dark-colored vehicle traveling eastbound. Moments later, the vehicle fled the scene.

First responders applied life-saving measures to the victim before rushing her to Hackensack University Medical Center. Officials confirmed she was later pronounced deceased.

At this time, detectives with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit continue to search for the fleeing driver.
