OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A 40-year-old Bayville woman died Friday evening after a single-vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway near Toms River, reports Daily Voice.

The fatal collision occurred on the northbound parkway near milepost 80.7, at about 6:40 p.m.

According to New Jersey State Police, the woman was driving a Toyota Camry northbound, when, for reasons still unknown, the car ran off the left side of the roadway and hit a wooden traffic sign and then a concrete sign to the left. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to burst in half, sending its front section into the roadway, where it traveled across all three traffic lanes. Moments later, it was hit by a Jeep traveling in the right lane and was sent into the right-side guardrail, causing the female driver to eject. Officials said she was pronounced deceased at the site.

No further information has been provided at this time, but an investigation remains ongoing.
