1 dead after crash with tractor-trailer on NJT in Elizabeth

UNION COUNTY, NJ — One person died early Friday after a two-vehicle wreck on the New Jersey Turnpike in Elizabeth, according to local media.

The fatal accident happened on the northbound outer lanes at mile marker 100.8, near Exit 13A to Newark Liberty International Airport. It was first reported at about 2:20 a.m.

Little information has been provided at this time, but New Jersey State Police said the wreck involved a Hyundai passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer, which overturned in the event.

The driver of the Hyundai died as a result of their injuries, confirmed officials. It was unclear whether they were pronounced deceased on the scene or at a hospital.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital.

All northbound outer lanes were blocked as an initial investigation was conducted. The NJSP have not disclosed the cause of the wreck.
