BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A male pedestrian was hospitalized last Friday, September 16, after being struck by an SUV in a marked Edgewater crosswalk, according to Daily Voice.

The incident occurred at the intersection of River Road and Garden Place shortly before 5:00 p.m.

Multiple witnesses told authorities the SUV was traveling recklessly and had run a red light moments before striking the victim. The SUV then continued traveling north toward the George Washington Bridge.

First responders rushed the pedestrian to Hackensack University Medical Center. Officials said he suffered multiple injuries, including a concussion.

A Good Samaritan who witnessed the crash was able to follow the suspect and alert officers to his location near the bridge. Port Authority police then stopped the fleeing SUV and apprehended the driver in Fort Lee.

The suspect, a Bronx, New York resident, has since been charged with “assault by auto.” Having been released, he is expected to appear at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack. Officials said he was also issued multiple traffic summonses as a result of the incident.
