OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A 21-year-old woman was hospitalized early Monday after being struck by a car while crossing Route 72 in Stafford Township, reports Shore News Network.
Stafford Township Police officers responded to the scene near Marsha Drive, shortly after receiving a call at 12:48 a.m.
According to authorities, a 27-year-old Harvey Cedars woman was driving a white 2019 Honda CRV eastbound in the right lane of Route 72. She struck the victim, an Oakland resident, as the latter and a group of friends were trying to cross the highway into the Beach Haven West area.
The victim suffered significant injuries to her head and other external and internal injuries. She was transported by airlift to Atlantic City Trauma Center. No updates on her condition have been disclosed at this time.
All eastbound lanes in the area were shut down for about an hour and a half during the emergency response. Motorists were diverted at Beach Haven West.
