MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Two men were injured Sunday evening when they were struck by a vehicle after a car show in east Edison, according to centraljersey.com.
The incident occurred outside the New Jersey Convention Center in Raritan Center and was first reported shortly after 7:38 p.m.
According to Edison Police, a Newark man was “drifting” in a green BMW, allowing his tires to slide on the roadway, when he lost control of the vehicle. Moments later, the car jumped a curb and struck the two pedestrians.
Officials said the driver fled the scene without stopping.
One of the victims, a 49-year-old South Plainfield man, suffered a head injury and was rushed to New Brunswick’s Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He has since been released.
The other victim, a 20-year-old West Orange man, initially declined treatment for leg injuries, but later received treatment and was released from a hospital.
A pet turtle that the West Orange man was holding during the crash also sustained injuries. It was brought to Edison Animal Shelter for treatment.
As of Tuesday, August 30, no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
